The structure of racemic (5,5,7,12,12,14-hexamethyl-1,4,8,11-tetra-azacyclotetradecane) copper(II)
perchlorate has been determined and refined to R=0.078 for 2528 reflections measured on a Syntex Pi
autodiffractometer. The title of the compound, with chemical formula CHNCu(ClO).H20, Fw=
564.96, is abbreviated as [Cu(tet b).HO(blue)] (CLO4). It crystallizes in the monoclinic space group
P. The cell parameters are aetermmea: a=8.759(4),b=16.214(7), c=18.284(8) A,β=110.75(3),
V=2596.67 A,Z=4, Dc=1.496, and Dm=1.51 g cm (by floatation). In this molecule the copper is
coordinated by four nitrogen atoms of tet b and an oxygen atom of water molecule. Different from the
general tetraamine complexes, the copper atom is not coplanar with the four nitrogen atoms, but trigonal
bipyramidally coordinated by addition of oxygen atoms of HO molecule, and the molecules are held
together by a hydrogen-bonding network involving water molecules.
