An analytical solution is presented for the general unsteady laminar flow in
a tube with arbitrary time--varying pressure gradient and arbitrary initial velocity
distribution. Principle of superposition and Laplace transformation method are used to
solve the governing momentum equation. The general solution presented simplifies
greatly for various special cases and agrees with the well-known special care previously
