In the design of an absorber, it is common practice to assume that the
absorber is operated under an isothermal condition and the flow rate of the absorbent
remains constant throughout the entire length of the absorber. This is usually valid
in the case where the concentration of the absorbate is very low. However, the
assumption may lead to serious overdesign if the concentration of the absorbate is
substantial. The “compartment-in-series” model is used here to demonstrate calculation
of concentration and temperature profiles of an adiabatic absorber. To make use of
this model, the absorber is divided into small compartments of equal volume in each.
Of which each fluid is completely mixed. The compositions and temperatures of gas
and liquid are assumed to remain constant within each compartment. Since mass and
heat transfer interact with each other, iterations are required in the compartment-to-
compartment calculations. As an illustrative example, the absorption of CO2, into
hot-potash solution in a packed column. Is considered, using this method. - 中文關鍵字: --
