A population balance model is used to describe the gas-particle heat
transfer mechanism in a complete mixing particulate system. An expression for
evaluating particle-to-particle heat transfer in terms of heat transfer characteristics
and operating conditions is derived. The effect of operating conditions and physical
properties on the temperature distribution of the particles in the flow system is
discussed based on the result obtained from this study. For a system of the uniform
size particles, about 18-32% of heat transferred in the system are by way of
