The measurements of the pH of a colloidal system- soil suspension-by glass and calomel electrode assembly using different types of salt bridges showed that the pH readings were not the same if the salt bridges were connected to the soil sediments, indicating the potentials developed at the liquid junction were not of the same magnitude. Therefore, this should not be neglected when the salt bridge is connected to a colloidal suspension.
The side tube type salt bridge developed in this study has been found most satisfactory for connecting the electrode with the soil sediment, because it provides a larger sharp contact surface without possible contamination of the soil sediment by saturated KC1 solution from the salt bridge. - 英文摘要: --
