- 英文摘要: Swarming motility is a multicellular phenomenon com-prising population migration across surfaces by special-ly differentiated cells. In Serratia marcescens, a networkexists in which the f1hDC flagellar regulatory masteroperon, temperature, nutrient status, and quorum sens-ing all contribute to the regulation of swarming motility. In this study, the rsmA (repressor of secondary metabo-lites) gene (hereafter rsmA ) was cloned from S. mar-cescens. The presence of multicopy, plasmid-encodedrsmA expressed from its native promoter in S. mar-cescens inhibits swarming. Synthesis of N-acylhomoser-ine lactones, presumably by the product of smal( a luxlhomolog isolated from S. marcescens), was also inhibit-ed. Knockout of rsmA on the S. marcescens chromo-some shortens the time before swarming motility beginsafter inoculation to an agar surface. A single copy of thechromosomal PrsmA ::luxAB reporter of rsmA tran-scription was constructed. Using this reporter, the rolesof the fIhDCflagellar regulatory master operon, tempera-ture and autoregulation in the control of rsmA ex-pression were determined. Our findings indicate thatRsmA is a component of the complex regulatory net-work that controls swarming.
