- 英文摘要: An exact analytical study is presented for the electrophoresis of an insulating sphere in the proximity of a large conducting plane. The electric field is exerted perpendicular to the plane wall. The double layers are assumed to be thin with respect to the particle radius and the gap thickness between the solid surfaces. The electrostatic and hydrodynamic governing equations are solved in the quasi-steady limit using spherical bipolar coordinates and the typical streamline pattern is exhibited. Corrections to Smoluchowski's equation for the electrophoretic velocity in an unbounded fluid are determined as a function of .lambda., the ratio of particle radius to distance of particle center from the plane wall. The presence of the wall causes a reduction in the electrophoretic mobility, which goes to zero as.lambda..arrr.1. The boundary effect on the electrophoresis of a sphere is weaker than on an electrophoretic cylinder of the same value of .lambda.. In general, the influence of the wall is much less significant for electrophoresis than for sedimentation.
