The stress-relaxation behavior of thermoplastic rubber (TPR) with a
“pseudo cross-link” structure was measured in the temperature range of 25-105℃.
Experimental data showed that the apparent initial cross-link density Na(0) decreased
linearly as testing temperature was raised, due to physical flow, and the stress
relaxation of pure TPR appoximated a Maxwellian decay. An analysis by procedure
X, the stress relaxation curve can be divided into three terms, namely, physical
folw, physical and stress relaxation of the pseudo network, and the stress relaxation
of polystyrene domain. For a peroxide cured TPR, there appeared an additional
term, corresponding to the relaxation of the chemical cross-links. In both cases,
physcial relaxation was the dominant one.
The mechanism of stress relaxation of TPR and of partially vulcanized TPR in
air and in nitrogen was investigated. Thermal effect was the dominant factor in
both cases. However, oxidative chain-cleavage became significant in the relaxation
behavior of partially vulcanized TPR at a higher temperature in air. The relaxa-
tion of TPR containing added polystyrene was also studied and its effect was
discussed. - 中文關鍵字: --
