- 中文摘要: The effect of different type of energy and nitrogen source on the growth andmetabolism was tested in two strains of Tetrahymena pyriformis. The growth ratewas greatly reduced when fructose or glutamic acid was used as sole energy source;however, ho significant effect was observed on the glutamic-pyruvic and glutamic-oxalacetic transaminase activities. Using different carbohydrate as energy sourcedid not affect the oxgen consumption of the ciliates, but slightly lower respiratoryquotient was shown in fructose medium. If glutamic acid was used as energysource, both oxygen and carbon dioxide exchange rates were markedly reduced. Incase of usng amino acid as sole nitrogen source, marked reduction of carbondioxide liberation was observed while oxygen consumption remained constant. It was found that strain W was slower in respiration than strain MC. And inall cases, repiration of aged ciliates was markedly reduced. Both strains werefound to be de devoid of glucose-6-phosphatase.
