Photosensitized copolymerization of acrylonitrile (AN) and methyl methacrylate
(MMA) by ultraviolet with benzoin has been studied. During copolymerization, precipi-
tation occurs when the volume ratio of AN/MMA is greater than 4, otherwise a
transparent solid copolymer is obtained. By means of the "Modified Sakurada Method",
one may have the monomer reactivity ratios γ1 and γ2 just only from one copolymerization
experiment. It is found that the change of the MMA concentration is faster than AN
in the monomer mixture. Nitrogen content of the copolymer changes with the path of
reaction; it will decrease as the conversion increases when AN is rich in monomer
mixture and vice versa. The total copolymerization rate of the system having more
AN is smaller than that of less AN due to the greater reactivity of MMA. - 中文關鍵字: --
