A mathematical model has been proposed for a heterogeneous isotopic
exchange reaction between the solid particles and ions in a solution of finite
volume. A theoretical equation has been derived to predict the exchange fraction
as a function of dimensionless time T=(K1t) with the final fractional uptake U
and kinetic mechanism parameter Y=(kf/KK1) as parameters for the exchange rate
controlled by combined film diffusion and surface chemical reaction. The effects
of the resistances of film diffusion and surface chemical reaction on the exchange
rate are discussed from the values of Y. The isotopic exchange reaction system
