The equations governing a packed bed reactor and catalyst pellets in
reaction systems are solved by using the orthogonal collocation method. Computa-
tions are illustrated for both the uniform pore size distribution model and wide
pore size distribution model. Since the wide pore size distribution model is in
agreement with the actual internal diffusion situation of the catalyst, and the
predicted effectiveness factor shows an obvious distinction between these two
models. Therefore, a more realistic reactor design can be achieved by applying
