- 中文摘要: Tetrahymena pyriformis MC was grown in media containing different types ofprotein source. Ciliates from casein medium showed high ribonucleic acid (RNA)content and RNA/DNA ratio in logarithmic phase which decreased in the stationaryand declining phases. The activities of glutamic-oxaloacetic (GOT) and glutamic-pyruvic (GPT) transaminases increased rapidly in the olgarithmic phase and decre-ased during subsequent incubation. The population increase curve obtained frompeptone medium was comparable to that of casein medium. The RNA, RNA, RNA/DNA ratio and transaminase activity curves were also in similar pattern to that ofthe casein medium, but much lower values were obtained. The ammonia accumula-tion showed rapid increase in casin medium but not in peptone medium. The dif-ference between the two media suggested that the pattern of amino acids providedby casein medium was nutritively higher far the growth of ciliate than the peptonemedium. In amino acid medium, retarded growth was observed. The RNA, DNA andRNA/DNA ratio showed no significant change during the entire incubation period.Progressive accumulation of ammonia was obtained after one week of incubation.Results suggested that the assimilation of amino acids by ciliate from amino acidmedium was not significantly limited. The pattern of amino acids absorbed as wellas the amino acid composition of the medium could be the factor or limiting growth.
