Three polyether-based polyurethanes were synthesized and their stress-strain
behavior was studied. It was found that the Mooney-Rivlin equation represented the
experimental data better than the classical equation of rubbery elasticity at a range of λ-1
between 0.2 and 0.6. The extrapolations of the straight line portions of all three
Mooney-Rivlin plots gave the identical intercept with the ordinate, suggesting that all
three polymers had the same number of network chains per unit volume. This was in
agreement with the expectation made on the basis of the identical contents of the hard
segments. However, the plots substantially deviate from the Mooney-Rivlin equation
at high and low λ-1. Such deviation can be explained at least qualitatively by extensive
theoretical treatment of the stress-strain behavior of a rubbery material. - 中文關鍵字: --
