This paper presents the transient analysis of the effects of the mode of
variation with respect to the extent of solid conversion and magnitude of the
effective diffusivity on the behavior of a class of heterogeneous fluid-solid reaction
systems. In all cases except two, the final effective diffusivities become substantially
greater than the initial values. Variation of the void fraction during the reaction
is taken into consideration. The volume reaction model is utilized to portray the
systems. The fluid and solid concentration distributions, the solid conversion,
and the effectiveness factor under isothermal conditions have been numerically
