The ultimate strength of composite laminates depends on the fiber orientation and loading condition. An original optimum design might have inadequate strength as the loads change out of change of operation. Precautions should be taken against such foreseeable hazards in the structural design of composite materials.
In this work, the two- and three-layered laminated plates and cylindrical shells are considered for the worst case conditions of coupling. The golden section search is modified for the global maximum and minimum strengths in terms of fiber direction at selected points across the laminate thickness. Predictions are consistent with experimental results, though they are limited due to difficulty in the exhaustive specimen preparation. This research will lead to a high degree of confidence in the extremal design of composite structures. - 中文關鍵字: --
