- 中文摘要: Traditional physics experiments at the high school and college freshman levels require students to strictly follow certain steps to perform each experiment and to apply given formulae to measure constants, such as the gravitational acceleration, with few data points and many assumptions which are difficult to observe. These experiments are often boring and might not achieve their educational goals for many students. To address these problems, we have developed a low-cost experiment kit, including data acquisition hardware and data analysis software, which are developed for the Windows operating system on a personal computer. In this computerized experiment setting, students can acquire many data points for each experiment. Using the visualization tools and data analysis tools the kit provides, students can observe the confirmation or denunciation of assumptions made during traditional experiments. Acting like scientists, they can formulate scientific hypotheses using mathematical models and test these hypotheses by comparing experimental data with the models. In short, this experiment kit offers huge benefits because students can explore scientifically and have fun with the usually painful task of learning Physics. If the cost of the experiment kit can be kept sufficiently low, then the dream of using computers and data acquisition hardware in physics lab at high schools and colleges will soon become a reality.
