• 中文摘要： The purpose of this paper is to examine the roles those adult children of the elderly play in formal service system. This paper precedes the analysis from the presumption that family members can act as case managers. After reviewing the literature, the primitive conclusion is made that family members mostly can serve as coordinators. A total sample of 368 adult children who lived with their aged parents was interviewed. The results show that most respondents (60%) provide information to their aged parents, some of the respondents (around 50%) act as brokers when their aged parents apply for service, and only a few (nearly 10%) company their parents to visit social agencies or to participate activities. Service awareness of family members is the significant factor that predicts their performance as case managers. In addition, the lower educated, the severe disabled the elderly, the more likely their adult children will do the case management tasks. Policy and practice implications are also discussed.
• 英文摘要： 本文的主要目的係在探討家庭成員在正式服務體系之角色，試圖從個案管理者(case manager)的觀點，分析其執行個案管理任務的情形，進而分析影響家庭成員執行個案管理的因素。資料的蒐集方式為面訪問卷調查，計訪問368位與老人同住的成年子（媳）女（婿）。 在理論探討方面，本研究歸結「由家人擔任個案管理者的模式」絕對不同於「由機構內專業人士擔任個案管理者的模式」，家人若要擔任個案管理者，只能扮演部分協調者的角色，如 提供訊息給老人、代表老人與機構打交道及陪同者。實證資料初步分析發現：家庭成員執行個案管理的任務，以訊息提供（告知訊息、代閱政府通知單）的任務較為普遍，其次是代辦 者的任務（代為準備資料、代填申請表格、代辦申請手續、代為查詢服務訊息），而陪同者的任務（陪同辦理申請手續、陪同參觀機構、陪同參加敬老活動）較少。此一發現指陳出當 老人與正式服務體系接觸時，成年子女確實扮演著協調者或仲介者的角色。又由邏輯迴歸模式的分析結果顯示：家庭成員服務訊息的認知是影響其執行個案管理任務的顯著因素；而老 人的教育程度愈低或日常生活功能愈低，則家庭成員扮演代辦者的可能性也愈高。最後本研究也針對未來的研究方向及促進家庭成員扮演個案管理者之作法提出建議。
