- 中文摘要: 本文探討,由Atkinson與Raugh[2]所提出來的機要詞方法的普遍適用性。機要詞方法是藉增加記憶的技術,習得外國語字彙的方法。原來的機要詞方法,雖然對於我國國中一年級學生之獲得英語字彙,無顯著效果,但若將原方法加以修 改,使學生連續性地處理機要詞方法所欲完成的事件,則據估計,學生可以增加的英語字彙,幾乎?控制組的四倍多。機要 詞方法亦不適用於受試者相當熟悉的外國語字彙之習得。一連串的實驗顯示,其所以無效,是由於外國語的生詞可以?生其特有的媒介消息所致。
- 英文摘要: This study investigates the general applicability of the keyword method originally proposed by Atkinson and Raugh [2] as a mnemonic aid for vocabulary learning. The keyword method was found not applicable to first-year junior high school students. However, by using some variants of the keyword method, in which the younger subjects were trained to process those items of information as demanded by the two stages of the keyword method sequentially, it was estimated that they could acquire more than 400% of the total vocabulary acquired by the control subjects. The keyword method was found also not applicable to the subjects familiar with the language in question. A series of experiments showed that this ineffectiveness was primarily due to the intrinsic mediators aroused to new foreign words from the trained subjects. Possible implications of the present study were briefly discussed.
