- 中文摘要: The main purpose of the present experiment was to test the validity of Saltz'shypothesis that high and low scorers on trait anxiety are failure- and pain-disruptedpersons, respectively. More than one hundred college women were randomly assignedto four groups of which each subject wrote serial numbers in one of the followingexperimental conditions: (1) forward writing under failure, (2) backward writingunder failure, (3) forward writing under shock, and (4) backward writing undershock. The results show that the significance of the product-moment correlationbetween manifest anxiety and performance depended upon the type of stress (failurevs. pain) and the level of task difficulty (forward vs. backward writing). Specifical-ly, manifest anxiety tended to be negatively correlated with forward-writingperformance in the failure condition and not correlated with forward-and backward-writing performance in the pain condition. These findings were in terpreted as onlypartially supporting the Saltz's hypothesis.
