A method of enriching small concentrations of surface active solutes from
water using countercurrent contacting of air bubbles with aqueous phase was
studied. The method uses differences in surface activity to separate components
from a solution. The specific objectives of this work were to characterize and
apply chemical engineering analysis to the performance of bubble towers, and to
explore certain means of making bubble towers more effective.
1-, 1-1/2-, and 2-in-ID bubble towers were operated with sodium dodecyl-
benzenesulfonate solutions to measure the liquid concentrations along the towers and
to develop a satisfactory bubble generation system for producing small uniform
bubbles and for reduction of bubble coalescence and axial mixing. Mathematical
models based on the conventional mass transfer theories were developed to predict
the concentration profile along the towers and are used to compare with the
experimental data. - 中文關鍵字: --
