- 英文摘要: There is strong evidence showing that chronic and ex-cessive ethanol consumption may enhance oxidativedamage to neurons and result in cell death. Although notyet well understood,ethanol may enhance ROS produc-tion in brain through a number of pathways includingincreased generation of hydroxyethyl radicals, inductionof CYP2E1, alteration of the cytokine signaling pathwaysfor induction of iNOS and sPLA , and production of pros-tanoids through the PLA /COX pathways. Since manyneurodegenerative diseases are also associated with ox-idative and inflammatory mechanisms in the brain, itwould be important to find out whether chronic andexcessive ethanol consumption may exacerbate the pro-gression of these diseases. There is evidence that thepolyphenolic antioxidants, especially those extractedfrom grape skin and seed, may protect the brain fromneuronal damage due to chronic ethanol administration. Among the polyphenols from grapes, resveratrol seemsto have unique antioxidant properties. The possible useof this compound as a therapeutic agent to ameliorateneurodegenerative processes should be further ex-plored.
