Abstract-The heat transfer mechanism of solid particles in a continuous gas-solid
fluidized bed is studied. Equations to evaluate heat transfer coefficients between
gas-particle, particle-particle, and wall-particle in terms of heat transfer cnarac-
teristics and operating conditions are derived. The effects of the operating variables
and the temperature distribution of the feed stream on the temperature distribution
of the particles in the system and in the exit stream are also discussed by using
experimental data obtained in this study. For a system of uniform size particles
in a 100 mm I.D. cylinder, about 18% of heat transferred in the system are by way
of particle-to-particle transport while only about 2% of heat are transferred by way
