膽固醇類混合物之節距離異研究

此處研究了各種不同重量比之膽固醇類nonanoate與propionate及nonanoate與butyrate兩種混合物之性質。詳細測得其膽固醇液晶相節距與溫度之關係,並計算其內在節距(intrinsic pitch)。在溫度靠近smectic-A相變化時節距之離異符合指數定律(power-law)。吾人得到代表此離異之係數(the critical exponent of the power law):在chole-steryl nonanoate與propionate混合物中當其重量比為(90:10),(85:15),(80:20)及(75:25)其所應對之值為0.683,0.675,0.681及0.693;而在cholesteryl nonanoate與butyrate混合物中當其重量比為(90:10),(85:15),(80:20),(75:25)及(70:30)時,其對應之 值為0.678,0.679,0.668,0.672及0.662。這些值與de Gennes預測的值非常接近。

Cholesteryl nonanoate-propionate and nonanoate-butyrate binary mixtures were studied at variouscomponent ratios. The detailed temperature dependence of the pitch of the cholesteric mesophase wasmeasured. The intrinsic pitch was calculated. The divergence of the pitch near the smectic-A transitionshows a power-law behavior. For cholesteryl nonanoate-propionate mixtures with weight ratios (90:10),(85:15), (80:20) and (75:25), the corresponding values of the critical exponent of the power-law are0.683, 0.675, 0.681 and 0.693 respectively. For cholesteryl nonanoate-butyrate mixtures with weightratios (90:10), (85:15), (80:20), (75:25) and (70:30), the corresponding values of are 0.678, 0.679,0.668, 0.672 and 0.662. These values agree with de Gennes' prediction.
