The electrochemical behaviour of tin in acidic media under forced flow
conditions has been studied. Experiments have been performed by using a tubular
internal recycling flow tin electrode. The results show that the rest potential of
the electrode in deaerated HCl solutions can be expressed empirically as
Er=-0.228-0.030 log[Sn2+]-0.060pH, V
The dependence of the corrosion current density on the electrolyte flow velocity
can be represented by a general correlation in which Ic is expressed as a function
of the Reynolds number Nre based on the tubular electrode diameter. In the
cathodic O2 depolarization process, the adsorption of O2 on the cathode is possibly
of the dissociative type. An autocatalytic process is considered as a possibility for
the dissolution of tin in aerated HCl solutions. The relation, log Ic=-0.68 pH+B',
is followed in carbonic acid. Ic increases with the increase of hydrochloric and
sulfuric acid concentration. At a constant overvoltage of -0. 1 V, an experimental
activation energy of 9.2Kcal/mole was obtained by Arrhenius plots. - 中文關鍵字: --
