- 中文摘要: A summary of ongoing bioorganic studies on rhodopsin, the most intensively studied G-protein coupled receptor (GPCR) is given. The article includes: (i) general descriptions of rhodopsin and (ii) various naturally occurring retinal chromophores in animals, fish and microorganisms; (iii) the rationale for 6-s-cis-11-sicis retinal being the common chromophoric structure in visual pigments; (iv) electrostatic charge distribution within the opsin binding site; (v) the visual transduction cycle; and (vi) the changes occurring in the chromophore/receptor interactions allong the visual transduction path.
