This study is to examine the current status of collectivism and authoritarianism of Singaporean college students, and explore the relational patterns between the attitude toward filial piety and aforementioned two political orientations.Total of 141 college students in Singapore participated in the questionnaire survey. The findings of this study are following.(1)The collectivism score of Singaporean college students is higherthan their individualism score, this is the same as the pattern of college students from other three Chinese societies (HongKong, Taiwan, and Mainland China). Compared to the counterparts in other Chinese societies, Singaporean college stu-dents had the lowest collectivism score. (2) Compared to the counterparts in other regions, Singaporean college studentshad the highest authoritarianism score. (3) The attitude toward filial piety appeared to be the only significant factor af-fecting the collectivism score of Singaporean college students, the more filial the higher tendency toward collectivism.(4) The major and attitude toward filial piety are the two factors significantly affecting the authoritarianism score of Sin-gaporean students; students who major in Social Sciences are more authoritarian than those in Humanities and studentswho have higher score on the filial piety attitude scale are more authoritarian than those score lower. The results of this study show that collectivism and individualism may not be the two poles of a same attitudinalcontinuum; they are two different attitude dimensions. The possible causes of Singaporean college students being moreauthoritarian than their counterparts in other Chinese societies, especially the communist Mainland China, were discuss-ed. Finally, the analyses of this study support views proposed by Hus, Pye, and Bond & Huang; the traditional familyvalues (represented by attitude toward filial piety in the present study) affect the formation of two Chinese politicalorientations, collectivism and authoritarianism.
