- 中文摘要: Further follow-up observations on filariasiscontrol by common salt medicated with diethylcarbamazine (DEC) in the twin endemic islandsof Kinmen Proper and Little Kinmen fromJune 1, 1977 to May 31, 1978. The resultsobtained are summarized as follows: 1. Parasitological investigation: The bloodsamples were collected from the finger tips of8,603 inhabitants in 24 villages on Kinmen Proper 3-5. months after control started, no filarialcarrier was found except 2 positive cases. Two post-control surveys among 9,059 and8,848 persons were examined by thick smearmethod (TSM) in 48 and 42 villages of KinmenProper 1-2.5 and 3-8 months after controlrespectively, no filarial infection was found.While, the negative result was also found among197 and 605 pre-control filarial carriers bymillipore membrane filtration technique (MMFT)in the above mentioned time. h Little Kinmen a post-control survey wasmade among 3,211 persons by the TSM and 237pre-control filarial carriers by the MMFT in 14villages 3.5 years after control, no microfilarialinfection was found. 2. Entomological investigation: 1,105 femaleadults of Culex p. fatigans were captured indoorresting sites of 14 villages on Kinmen Proper1-2.5 months after control started. On dissectionno mosquito was found to be infected. 3. Clinical investigation: Physical examina-tion was conducted among 395 pre-control filarialcarriers with clinical manifestations in- 95 villagesof twin islands. Clinical diseases一disappearedin 44.6%, 5.1% improved, and there was nochange in 41.8%. But new occured in 5.6%,and 3.0% increased in severity. It indicatedthat the DEC medicated salt seems to be effec-tive to the acute stage of clinical manifesta-tions, but no effect was found to the chroniccases of elephantiasis. General speaking, the DEC medicated saltseems to be a very rapid and efficient agentfor the treatment of filariasis, it is probably alsothe most simple, cheap and practical methodfor use in filariasis control or eradication inthe future.
