This work is to illustrate a simplified graphical method and correlation
equation to provide a easy way to estimate the model parameters of a recirculation
model in a reactor or fermenter. The dispersion characteristic or Bodenstein
number (vL/D1) of a reactor during one recirculation would be calculated by using
only the average value of system mixing time ? and fluid circulation time (tc)
from experimental tracer response curves. This work is also to present a correlation
equation for extrapolating mixing time of different mixing time criterion (δ) of
various works to the one with the same mixing time definition in systems. The
Bodenstein number and mixing times of a fermenter estimated by applying the
proposed equations were discussed. Results show that values calculated by the
proposed correlation equations are consistent with those estimated by other tedious
