• 中文摘要： 本文為中國傳統地理觀—風水的實證研究。以一「封閉的」26個集村所組成的烈嶼島為例，來探討在這既有的環境中，「傳統村落」（十七至十九世紀間）的位置是如何為移民氏族所選擇而作為集居地？其民宅是如何被定位的？其朝向又如何決定？因此，本文從氏族集體意識之實質環境的組構中，來分析村落的座落(location)與朝向(orientation)兩大主題，並且，從以下兩個層面來考量烈嶼實質環境的形成：（1）從移民時間與空間來看待空間發展的層次；（2）移民者對空間在經驗上的認知。依此試圖重建自然與實質環境建構彼此關係之「擇址模式J」(the pattern of siting)可能的形成。
• 英文摘要： This positivistic study of Chinese geomancy (feng-shui) examines twenty-six villages onLissouw Island as“closed”examples to analyze how“traditional village sites”and house loca-tions were chosen by migrating clans between the 17th and 19th centuries. We investigated howthe collective ideology of different clans was translated into final decisions on village locationand orientation. We examined two aspects of the formation of Lissouw Island's physical en-vironment:（1）the relationship between village location and time of settlement, and (2) migrantclan cognition of spatial experiment. We attempt to reconstruct the probable formation ofsiting patterns－i.e.,the interrelationship between the natural and man-made environment.
