Transient freezing of a warm liquid flowing through a chilled circular
tube is analyzed by perturbation method. Freezing outside a chilled circular tube
with a warm liquid flowing in axial direction is also analyzed. The perturbation
method consists of immobilizing the moving interface by a special Landau's trans-
formation, using the position of the interface as an independent variable, and
applying regular parameter perturbation technique with Stefan number as a parameter.
The zero-order solution is shown to be the quasi-steady state solution. For outside
solidification, the first-order and the second-order solutions are practically no different
from the zero-order solution. For inside solidification, the first-order solution gives
