By employing the spherical harmonic perturbation in geometry, the
stability of freezing on a spherical solid with convective heat transfer at wall has
been studied. Two cases-inward and outward solidification of saturated liquid
are considered to analyze the stability behavior. It is found that the geometry is
always stable for the inward solidification. A stability criterion for outward
solidification is obtained and depends on the two parameters, Biot number, Bi,
