A new time-varying coded aperture called the 'Simplified Fourier Aperture' is described. It is a single sinusoidal grating which is translated between the source object plane and the detector plane. To the detector, the aperture behaves as an adjustable grating that scans the object over a two dimensional frequency space by changing its orientation and position. Because of its simple construction, it can replace the Fourier aperture as a good gamma-ray imaging device in nuclear medicine. The image reconstruction algorithm and the tomographic image capabilities are discussed.
