- 英文摘要: The temporal variation of the stability ratio in polymer-induced flocculation occurring in a shear-flow field is examined theoretically. The present study extends the conventional analysis in that the transient behavior of the adsorption of polymer molecules onto the surfaces of colloidal particles is taken into account. The interaction forces between colloidal particles including hydrodynamic force, electrical double-layer force, and van der Waals force have been considered. Depending upon the ratio (number of active sites on polymer molecules/number of sites on colloidal surfaces), the stability ratio may decrease monotonically with time to a steady-state value, or may decrease in the early stage, passes through a minimum, and then increases to a steady-state value. Under conditions normally encountered, the variation in the stability ratio is insensitive to the variation in the surface potential of colloidal particles, and is mainly governed by the degree of surface coverage of colloidal particles by polymer molecules.
