The patterns of current and potential distribution on zinc electrodes in
zinc-silver oxide secondary cells during cycling were studied by using a sectioned
electrode technique. The relation between the nonuniformity of current distribu-
tion and the observed shape change over the surface of zinc electrodes was
examined.
Zinc electrodes used for this study were of conventional type of design and
were fabricated by the slurry paste method. The positive electrodes used were
sectioned silver oxide electrodes, each one of them comprised nine sections of
sintered silver plates.
The results indicate that the initiation and progress of the zinc electrode
shape change is directly related to the nonuniformity of current distribution on
the electrode, and the extent of zinc electrode shape change can be significantly
mitigated by adding to the edge sections of the electrode separator system a layer
of nonwoven fabric treated with Fe(OH)2. - 中文關鍵字: --
