Western educational systems were introduced to Taiwan in the late 19th century, during the era ofJapanese occupation. Up till Japan was defeated and withdrew from Taiwan, the kindergarten educationin Taiwan had made considerable progress both in quality and quantity. In 1945, Taiwan was revertedback to China, and the Nationalist government's move to Taiwan brought its early childhood educationalsystem and practice which was disrupted by Communist Chinese to Taiwan. These two historic back-grounds combined to form the foundation of early childhood education in Taiwan today. As a result, the teaching quality for early childhood education in Taiwan today is influenced by thecultivation system for early childhood teaching originated in mainland China at the end of Ching dynasty. The same holds true for the kindergarten teaching. This research asserts pragmatics (such as planning ofthe space learning capability for children) is the key to the quality of teaching, and refers to predefinedstages of early childhood teaching (burgeoning, bloosoming, stagnation, and progressing) to analyze thelessons of pragmatic teaching for early childhood education of each stage, and the development of demandfor the teaching quality for early childhood education since the last days of Ching dynasty by its coun-trymen; it also conducts analysis on the changes of kindergarten teaching in Taiwan since its return toChina, and studies its relationships with the ability of pragmatic teaching.
