- 中文摘要: This experiment was carried out from February to December, 1962, and fromMarch to December, 1963 separately at the altitude of 2,400 meters and 2,500 meters,Ta Hsueh Shan Forest Company, Tungshih, Taichung, Taiwan. The purposes are:(1).To determine the suitable ways of preparing sites. (2). To find out the bestplanting method. Three ways of preparing sites were used for this test: a. Clearweeding; b. Strip weeding, and c. Check plot (unprepared site). The planting methodswere mattock centerhole planting and mattock slit planting. The plots were arrangedin split plot design with four replications. Each plot is 400 square meters in area,two hundred seedlings were planted in each plot, 24 plots and 2,800 seedlings in totalwere planted on February 26, 1962, and i1}Iarch 20, 1963. The results obtained may be summarized as follows:(1)Survival percentage: On the end of the first year after planting, the survival percentage of clear weeding showed 79.4%(1962), 50.5% (1963);strip weeding 80.0% (1962), 49.6% (i963):check plot ( unprepared site ) 63.1%(1962 ), 35.5%(1963);mattock center- hole planting 77.2%(1962 ), 49.3(1963 ) ; and mattock slit planting 71.2% (1962 ), 37.8%(1963) respectively. And analysis of the variance of first-year survival of the experiment of 1962 has determined that the difference of survival among the ways of preparing sites is significant, strip weeding and clear weeding are good; unprepared site is poor. But ,the difference of survival, among planting methods is not significant. But they are all not significant the experiment of 1963.(2) Total height growth: The difference of total height growth of ways of preparing sites and planting methods are not significant.(3). Root-stem diameter growth: Except that the total root-stem diameter of mattock center-hole planting ( 4.79 mm. ) of the experiment of 1963 is rather good ( mattock slit planting 4.40 mm.),the difference of total root-stem diameter of ways of preparing sites and planting methods are not significant either.(4) Suggestions: According to the results of the above two experiments, in general the strip weeding and the mattock center-hole planting are the best methods for reforesta- tion of Taiwan Red Pine at alpine grassground in Taiwan. They can save one pelf expense of preparing sites than what has done. If the grasses are not higher,than 50 cm., the site preparation and weeding are useless. The mattock slit planting that can save 2/3 planting expense is used at planter's discretion because even if the difference of the root-stem diameter between the two planting methods is signif cant, it is very few in number.
