蛙胚腎上腺皮質功能發育之研究

Histochemical analysis of △ -3β-hydroxy-steroid dehydrogenase (△ -3β-HSD) in theadrenal cortex was investigated at variousdevelopmental stages of Rana catesbeiana. Ascanning microscope spectrophotometer togetherwith a minicomputer were used to evaluate thepercentage of transmittanc of the reaction pro-duct of the enzyme activity, in order to eva-luate the changes of △ -3β-HSD activity andthe functional development of adrenal cortex. The result shows that the activity of △ -3β-HSD increases gradually during the develop-mental stages. It begins to appear weakly incortical cells at Shumway stage 23, then rapidlyincreases with the differentiation of the adrenalcortex. A low increasing activity is fol-lowed at premetamorphic and prometamorphicstages. After then, it again increases veryrapidly to reach a peak at the metamorphicclimax. The strong enzyme activity at thisstage seems to be important in regulating me-tamorphosis of anuran tadpoles. However, atthe young frog stage, the activity drops.
