When the coolant flows through the outside (or inside) of the cylinder,
the liquid inside (or outside) of the cylinder will gradually solidify from the surface
of cylinder. In this paper, a perturbation method originated by Mullins and Sekerka
is used to study the stability of shape of the moving solid-liquid interface during
solidification on a cylindrical container with convective heat transfer at wall. Three
cases of perturbations, θ-, θ- and z-, and z-directions to the radial growth are
discussed. The growth of the interface on a cylindrical container is always stable
when the freezing process is for inward solidification. The stability criterion for
