A sinusoidal perturbation technique of an infinitesimal deviation is
employed to study the geometrical stability of freezing process on a flat surface
with isothermal wall. The calculation is based upon the unsteady state heat
conduction equations satisfying the perturbed boundary conditions and initial
condition to determine the growth or decay of an infinitesimal amplitude. Both
absolute and relative stability are considered in this paper. Instability occurs
during the beginning of solidification. A stability criterion is expressed in terms
