- 中文摘要: The present study was performed formJuly 1, 1974 to February 28, 1975. The re-sults obtained in Little Kinmen included be-fore and after filariasis control by commonsalt medicated with diethylcarbamazine (DEC).It also compared the data obtained in twin is-lands of Kinmen Proper and Little Kinmenby combined method and medicated salt respec-tively. 1. Parasitological investigations:4,794persons in 14 villages of Little Kinmen wereexamined, the infection rate of 9.6% andmf. density/20 cmm blood of 14.4 were foundbefore filariasis control. The correspondingfigures were 0.2 % and 1.8 respectivelyamong 5,152 persons in 26 villages afterfilariasis control. In Kinmen Proper before filariasis control,the mf. rate of 8.4% and mf. density of14.6 among 45,787 persons in 129 villages.After control the corresponding figures were2.7% and 5.0 respectively among 37,596inhabitants. 2. Entomological investigations:On dis-section, 77 out of 844 Culex p. fatiganswere found positive, giving the infection rateof 9.1%;infective rate, 3.7%;and filariallarval density/ infected mosquito, 6.2. Thecorresponding figures after control were 0.8%,0.2% and 1.3 respectively in 504 Culex p.fatigans. In Kinmen Proper before filariasis con-trol, the infection rate of 10.3%;infectiverate, 6.4%;and filarial density/infectedmosquito, 6.4 among 3,220 C.p. fatigans.After control the correspndding figures were2.3%, 1.0%, and 3.0 respectively in 2,930C.p. fatigans· 3. Comparison of considerable factorsfor filariasis control by combined method andmedicated salt with DEC on Kinmes Islands;Based on the results obtained in KinmenProper after filariasis control by combinedmethod of chemotherapy (DEC) and larvicide(sumithion), the figures showed that thepersonal medication rate (88.6%) cure rate(80.1%), mf. reduction rate (96.7%),mosquito infected reduction rate (77.5%), and infective reduction rate (84.1%) weremuch lower than that in Little Kinmen afterfilariasis control by DEC medicated salt(100%, 98.5%,99.8%,91.2 % and 94.6%respectively). But the time spent (5 years),side-effects(61.6%),excuses(3.1%),andrefusals (1.6%) in the former were muchhigher than that in the latter(about threeyears, 0%, 0%, and 0% respectively).Moreover, the combined method has no treat-ment to the missed filarial carriers andalso no preventative value. Therefore,themedicated salt seems one of the most efficientsand practical method for use in filariasis con-trol in the future.
