- 中文摘要: 地震是臺灣的主要天然災害之一。目前,臺灣地區有兩個地震觀測網。其中一個由中央氣象局負責運轉,共包括十七個測站。此觀測網的第一個地震儀設立於1897年。至今,在某些氣象觀測站內,舊有的地震儀,諸如威赫特(Wiechert)地震儀、大森(Ormori)地震儀、石本(Isimoto)地震儀,仍在使用之中。另一個觀測網「臺灣遙記式地震觀測網」(TTSN)則由國家科學委員會資助,於1972年開始設立。此觀測網的設計是將野外測站的地震訊號傳回臺北的記錄中心;TTSN的設立、操作、維護,則由中央研究院地球科學研究所負責。到1988年6月為止,TTSN巳設了25個測站,並收錄了一七萬多個地震。大量的TTSN記錄已被廣泛地應用於活動斷層描繪、震源特性與地震活動時空分佈的研究、及更深入了解大地構造活動的特性與狀態。為了使地震觀測站現代化,中央氣象局與地球科學研究所分別於1980和1987年開始改良其觀測網。已完成的主要工作有:(1)在中央氣象局的十七個氣象觀測站內設立短週期地震儀;(2)以一低速數位傳輸系統連接所有氣象觀測站;(3)應用數位記錄技巧於TTSN;(4)提高資料分析系統之功能。不可否認的,此二觀測網的功能有一些限制,在近幾年內必須加以改良。我們未來的主要目標是:(1)改進資料收集系統的動態範圍及頻寬;(2)擴大觀測網涵蓋地區並連接二觀測網;(3)設計一地震資料庫管理系統和整理臺灣的地震有關資料。
- 英文摘要: Earthquake is one of the major natural hazards in Taiwan. Currently, two seismic networks areoperational in the Taiwan area. One is composed of 17 stations maintained by The Central Weather Bureau(CWB). The first seismograph of this network was installed in 1897,and now, several old seismographs,such as Wiechert's seismograph, Ormori's seismograph and Isimoto's accelegraph, are still in operation atsome weather observatories. Under the support of the National Science Council, the establishment ofanother network called the Taiwan Telemetered Seismic Network (TTSN), was begun in 1972.The networkwas designed to telemeter seismic signals from field stations to a recording center located in Taipei. Install-ation, operation, and maintenance of the TTSN has been taken on by the Institute of Earth Sciences,Academia Sinica. As of June of 1988, the TTSN consists of 25 stations and more than seventy thousandearthquakes have been collected by the network. The large volume of TTSN data has been widely appliedto map the active faults, to study the source characteristics and seismicity patterns, and to better understandthe nature and state of tectonic processes. In order to modernize seismic observatories, the Central WeatherBureau and the Institute of Earth Sciences began to upgrade their own network in 1980 and 1987, respec-tively. A major effort has been made to;(1) install a short-period seismograph in each of the 17 CWB'sweather observatories; (2) link all weather observatories together with a low-speed digital communicationsystem; (3) apply digital recording techniques to the TTSN; and (4) upgrade data analysis systems. It isrecognized that both networks still have some limitations, and that modification should go ahead in thenext few years. The principal goals are:(1) to improve the dynamic range and bandwidth of the datacollection system: (2) to expand geographic coverage and join both networks together, and (3) to designa seismic data base management system and organize the earthquake-related data in Taiwan.
