• 中文摘要： 蔡淑鈴（1994）曾經分析3,233對夫妻的資料，初步探討台灣的婚姻階層化現象，結果發現不論是就賦予地位而言，或是依成就地位來說，同質性地位通婚的傾向皆是婚姻配對的基本原則。上述研究雖已有一些初步結果，但由於受限於樣本數不足的困難，無法處理多面向之間的關聯性問題。本研究為了瞭解賦予地位配對與成就地位配對之間的關係，由1980年與1992年之生計處家庭收支調查中，抽取23.237對夫妻的資料，並使用多變項的因果模型，來檢視族群與教育在台灣婚姻市場上的相對重要性。實證分析發現，雖然台灣有顯著雙重配對的現象，但是族群內婚的傾向已逐漸減弱；反之，教育配對是婚姻階層化一個相當穩定的重要因素。教育差距愈大，夫妻配對的可能性就愈小。
• 英文摘要： Tsai's（1994) earlier research on assortative mating has demonstrated a clear tendency for people inTaiwan to marry homogamously with respect to either ascribed status (such as ethnicity or class background)or achieved status (such as educational attainment or occupational achievement). Using data derived from23,237 pairs of married couples, the present paper extends Tsai's earlier work by employing multivariateanalysis. In order to examine whether the declining importance of ethnicity has been accompanied by anincrease in the importance of education in assortative mating, multiplicative loglinear models that simul-taneously consider the roles of education and ethnicity in marriage selection are applied. Generally speaking,we find dual homogamy on ethnicity and education in Taiwan; individuals tend to marry within the sameethnic group, and they also tend to marry at the same educational level. However, the strength of ethnicendogamy has decreased over time, showing the“loosening-up”of the marriage market. It is evidentthat education serves as a stable factor in mate selection. Marriage becomes less frequent as distance inschooling increases.
