• 中文摘要： 本文利用數學方法探討密度效應對植物數量性狀生長的影響。密度效應函數係由Richards氏的四介量生長函數導出，而成為三介量的倒數密度函數，而其中之一介量為生長函數之介量，故可先估，因此在模式之適合度檢定上較為有利。由此式證實密度效應之大小與性狀本身之生長方式有密切關係，同時由此函數可估計該性狀之環境潛力與遺傳潛力。由理論上之推演知植物生長初期不發生密度效應，因此可充分表現該植株之遺傳特性，即遺傳潛力大而環境潛力較小。但生長後期，植株因競爭現象之發生，而使性狀之測定值含有較大之環境變異性，使環境潛力變大而遺傳潛力變小，植株之遺傳特性無法表現，因此生長後期性狀之測定值很難表達遺傳特性，故由此測定值所進行的遺傳分析之結果，可靠性降低。 本文所探討之性狀包含地上部乾物重，株高及分蘗數等，大部分結果均證實上述理論之成立以及所建立的密度效應函數之可用性。另外本文尚探討密度效應對分蘗數自然疏落之影響，證實二期作密植可提高分蘗數而一期作則無法提高。同時探討密度效應對葉重及莖重相對生長之影響，證實莖重之生長優於葉重之生長，尤其是二期作時葉部之生長不如莖部生長甚大，使同化物質無法充分供應而使稔實率降低，如提高密度，葉部之相對生長亦無法提高，但由於分蘗數增加，故單位面積上之總生產力可獲改善。由莖葉相對生長之關係擬定綜合生長模式，並探討密度效應對此綜合生長模式之影響。
• 英文摘要： This paper reviews the results of our research during the past several years on the growth model andvariability of growth parameters in rice, with special emphasis on the density effect on plant growth. Richards growth model was used to establish the mathematical models of density function of dryweight, plant height, natural thinning of tillering number, allometric growth of leaf and stem weight, andthe synthetic growth model. This research was also taken to study the possible causes of the growth differ-ences between the two rice crops in Taiwan.
