- 英文摘要: We report the results of an experimental investigation of the role played by the surface finish ofmolybdenum electrodes on electrical breakdown in high vacuum. The electrode surfaces were mechanicallypolished with abrasive powders of different particle sizes, ranging from 0.05μm (方程式無法摘錄) to 240 grit SiC(particle size≒50%μm). Seven pairs of electrodes, each with different combinations of anode-cathode surfacefinishes, were used. The breakdown field depended on the surface roughness of both electrodes. It had thehighest value when both electrodes had the smoothest finishes and lowest values when the cathode surfacewas roughest and that of the anode smoothest. Our experiments show that the anode surface plays animportant role in breakdown.
