A practical, approximate method of calculation of the mean enthalpy
driving force in a cross-flow cooling tower has been proposed.
The value of the water temperature through the gas inlet plane and that of
the air enthalpy through the water inlet plane are theoretically calculated. With
the assumption of exponential distributions of the water temperature and the air
enthalpy through their outlet planes, the local values of the water temperature
and the air enthalpy in the tower can be obtained. Based on these values, the
mean enthalpy driving force is calculated.
The relationship between the mean enthalpy driving force calculated by the
present method and that calculated by Schechter et al. using an electric
