- 英文摘要: The decline in physical capacity in the elderly can beameliorated by low-velocity, low-impact exercises. Waitan kung (WTK), a traditional Taiwanese conditioningexercise, is suitable for older people. This study evaluat-ed the effect of WTK on autonomic nervous modulationin the elderly. Twenty WTK practitioners and 20 normalcontrols were recruited in this study. The stationary statespectral heart rate variability(HRV) measures, hemody-namics, and spirometry between the WTK group andnormal controls and sequential changes in HRV mea-sures and hemodynamics after WTK were compared. We found that the standard deviation and coefficient ofvariation of RR intervals, total power, low frequencypower(LFP),and normalized LFP(nLFP) in WTK practitio-ners before WTK were all significantly higher than thoseof normal controls. After WTK, the normalized high-fre-quency power increased(nHFP) significantly from 27.7士13.2 normalized units(nu)before WTK to 37.6土16.0 nu 30 min after WTK,and to 39.8士20.1 nu 60 minafter WTK. In contrast, LFP/HFP decreased significantlyfrom 1.3士1.0 before WTK to 1.0士0.9 30 min after WTKand to 0.8士0.6 60 min after WTK. We concluded that inthe short term,WTK enhances vagal modulation andsuppresses sympathetic modulation, whereas in thelong term,WTK enhances sympathetic modulation with-out compromising vagal modulation of the elderly. ThusWTK is good health-promoting calisthenics that can berecommended to the elderly.
