ESR was used to study silica gel supported Bi2O3-WoO3 catalysts.
A hyperfine ESR spectra of MoO3/SiO2 was observed at room temperature and
atomspheric pressure. In the presence of ethyl alcohol, the intensity of the Mo+5
signal increased as the temperature increased. This indicates that the chemisorption
of ethyl alcohol involves electron losing step. The presence of Bi and Fe in the
catalyst lowered the intensity of the MO+5 signal and the reactivity of ethyl alcohol
