Friesen在1978年發表臉部動作編碼系統(FACS)以來,FACS已經成為臉部動畫研究領域中無法被取代的一套系統,以FACS作為臉部動畫系統的人機介面一直是研究者的一個重要的里程碑。雖然有許多論文嘗試以各種電腦圖學方法來模擬FACS,但是截至目前為止仍然沒有發展出一套真正基於FACS的臉部動畫系統。 如果想透過電腦圖學方法來產生臉部表情,則必須從臉部動作中抽取出與人的情感、認知及物理狀態有關的資訊。換言之,純粹以目前的電腦圖學技術很難實作FACS。為了能實作FACS,我們必須從相當高的層次來看待臉部表情的產生過程,讓動畫師能從較高的層次來設計臉部動畫。為達成此一目標,我們提出一個臉部展現系統,其主要的部分是一個物件導向式臉部模型及一個臉部展現合成子系統,前者主要用於建構抽象化臉部模型,後者則是用於合成臉部動畫,整個系統的建構過程都是依照FACS的觀念來設計的。最後,我們以一些實例來示範臉部展現系統的主要設計概念及成果。
- 英文摘要: Since 1978,the Facial Action Coding System (FACS) developed by P. Ekman and W. Friesen hasbeen irreplaceable in the facial animation research community, where use of FACS as a human-machineinterface in facial animation systems was an important milestone. Although a few papers have adoptedapproaches to simulate FACS by means of computer graphics means, a truly FACS-based facial animationsystem has not yet been developed. It is very difficult to implement FACS using current computer graphics techniques alone. To realizeits implementation, we need to view the generation of facial expressions by rather high level abstractionof a physical state. To achieve this goal, we propose a FAGS-based facial animation system that containstwo major components:an object-oriented system model for construction of the face abstraction and apresentation synthesizer for synthesis of facial animation.Some illustrative examples are given to revealthe processes involved in some of the key design concepts of the proposed system.
