Temperature solutions are presented for the problem of laminar heat transfer
in circular pipes or parallel-plate channels with internal heat generation and the
boundary condition of the third kind. The temperature solutions contain, as a special
case, the solution corresponding to the case of no internal heat generation. By
employing an improved technique, highly accurate first ten eigenva1ues, eigenfunctions,
and other important constants are determined and tabulated for selected values of a
convective parameter. In addition, asymptotic expressions for these quantities are
derived. For large values of the convective parameler, it was found that even the
first few eigenvalues predicted by these expressions agreed closely with the accurately
determined values. The asymptotic eigenvalues for the boundary condition of the
third kind were found to be confined within two limits, namely, the asymptotic
eigenvalues for the case of uniform wall temperature (boundary condition of the first
kind) and those for the case of uniform wall heat flux (boundary condition of the
second kind). Variation of thermal-entrance region Nusselt number under the boundary condition
